Replacing Your Old Water Heater with a Tankless One.

If you are debating the value of a tankless water heater here are some things that you need to know –

What is the advantage of going tankless?
1.  It provides hot water ONLY when you need it.  The water is heated on the spot when you turn on the faucet.
2.  You reduce energy loss and increase efficiency by over HALF!  An average household will save about $200 per year.

What are the downsides of a tankless water heater?
1.  It cannot produce a large amount of hot water all at once.  A tankless water heater produces less than half of the gallons per minute that a traditional water heater pumps out.
2.  A new system is typically double the price of a traditional hot water heater.

Talk to a Chicagoland water heater expert before you make a decision.  If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.  AquaTech plumbing is your water heater professional.  We will be there for you for maintenance, installation, or a plumbing emergency 24/7.

Is it Time to Consider a Tankless Water Heater?

Your old water heater is probably working overtime in this weather.  How old is it?  How long do you expect it to run at peak efficiency?  And better yet, what kind of quality is that water heater you currently have?  These are all questions that need to be answered in the dead of winter in Chicagoland.  Imagine waking up tomorrow and showering in ice cold water?  Yikes!

It may be time to consider a new tankless water heater for your home.  First of all, it saves space as they are constructed in such a way to fit just about anywhere.  A tankless water heater provides unlimited and continuous hot water and best of all SAVES YOU MONEY on each and every gas bill.  We’re talking up to 40% savings over a conventional water heater.  It also helps control bacteria.

Now that you have thought about going tankless, rely on the Fox Valley professionals that you count on for all of your plumbing needs.  AquaTech plumbing is the answer.  Call AquaTech Plumbing any time 24/7 serving Naperville, Lisle, Plainfield, Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville, or Glen Ellyn, at 630-416-3555, 630-898-3444, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.

The Virtues of a Tankless Water Heater.

You probably don't think about your water heater until it’s too late. When that time comes consider that storage tanks cost less but tankless heaters save energy by only heating the water you draw. Needless to say that is good for your budget as well as the environment.

Before you shell out thousands for a tankless model, you may wish to see whether your old water heater can be fixed. A corroded storage-tank model is probably beyond repair, but a leaky drain or pressure-relief valve or a burned-out heating element can often be fixed. Rule of thumb: Consider a repair if the labor cost (which warranties often exclude) averages less than $50 per year over the years left in the warranty. Otherwise, buy a new one, especially if the warranty has run out.

What you save with tankless systems can vary significantly based on which one you buy and where you live.

To be sure that you need a new water heater or that you get the best deal on a new one, the experts at AquaTech Plumbing are a phone call away.  If you live in Naperville, Lisle, Plainfield, Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville, or Glen Ellyn, give AquaTech Plumbing a call today about your water heater or any other plumbing need at 630-416-3555, 630-898-3444, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.

Shopping for a Water Heater.

Is it time to replace that old water heater?  If it is you have two distinct choices…standard and tankless.  AquaTech Plumbing serving the western suburbs of Chicago wants you to be educated as to the choices involved.  A water heater is something that you will live with for many years to come and you need to make the right decision for your home and lifestyle.

If you choose a standard water heater you want something that lasts a long time and is less susceptible to leaking and rupturing.  A big tank water heater that stores 40 to 60 gallons of hot water at a time will keep your showers, laundry, and other hot water needs properly satisfied for quite some time.  Modern tanks reheat additional supply quite quickly as well, so you'll likely never run out of hot water when you need it.

With a tankless water heater you are spending more upfront, but your back-end savings will more than make up for it.  Tankless systems provide that hot water on demand, instantaneously, when you need it, so you don't have to waste energy heating unused water.  And finally, a typical tank water heater is supposed to last 10 to 13 years, tankless water heaters are estimated to last up to 20 years.

If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, or Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville, Glen Ellyn area - AquaTech IS your neighborhood plumber.  To discover the complete story on the right water heater for your needs give us a call today at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.

A Tankless Water Heater is Not Only Economical, But Good for the Environment as Well.

You probably don't think about your water heater until a cold shower suggests you need a new one. How do you  choose? Storage tanks cost less but tankless heaters save energy by only heating the water you draw. Hybrid electric/heat-pump models and solar water heaters are two newer options.

Before you shell out thousands for a tankless or solar model, see whether your old water heater can be fixed. A corroded storage-tank model is history. But a leaky drain or pressure-relief valve or a burned-out heating element can often be fixed. Rule of thumb: Consider a repair if the labor cost (which warranties often exclude) averages less than $50 per year over the years left in the warranty. Otherwise, buy a new one, especially if the warranty has run out.

Consumer Reports tests through winter snow and summer heat also show that what you save with solar and tankless systems can vary significantly based on which one you buy and where you live. They also tested an add-on heat pump that, because of high maintenance, costs far more than its low price suggests.

General Plumbing Maintenance Tips

Below are a list of General Plumbing Maintenance Tips to ensure that you are getting the most cost effective and safe plumbing throughout your home. Practice the following tips and you can potentially save yourself money and future headaches.

1.Pour a gallon of water into infrequently used drains (including floor drains) to fill the trap and prevent odors from entering the house. Slow floor drains should be snaked to ensure they will carry away water quickly during a flood.

2.Check exposed pipes under sinks and in the basement for signs of leaks.

3.Install a backflow valve in the floor drain if you live in an area where sewers sometimes backup into homes. This device will prevent future backups.

4.If your home has a sump pump, make sure it operates properly by pouring a few buckets of water into the sump pit. The pump should quickly turn on, discharge the water then shut off without any problems.

If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for any of your plumbing needs.

Reliable and Professional Plumbing Services You Can Count On.

Family owned and operated, AquaTech Plumbing has served the suburbs of Chicago proudly for more than 30 years. In that time, we have worked on helping you in times of plumbing replacement, repair, and emergency.

Replacements could be as simple as fixture replacements. Wear and tear will eventually render a faucet weak and eventually useless. Our professionals will install your new fixtures in no time. It will improve quality and aesthetics.

Or perhaps a compromised hose is soaking the laundry room. We'll be there!
Repairs can be as small as a leaky faucet --that can add it to a large cost. It's better to get a professional out to look at a leak than a flood. But don't worry, we can handle both.

Emergency plumbing situations are the most unwanted--but most needed service. If it's the middle of the night and a pipe bursts, a basement floods or a water heater goes out, you and your family shouldn't have to wait until 8 a.m for help. By then, the damage is done. Our 24/7 emergency service will answer your call and have the situation under control upon our expeditious arrival.
If we could put sirens on our trucks, we would. But know this: Whether if it's an emergency or a small leak, we regard your business as big business. No leak is too small, no flood is too big.

If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-
Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for more information

Tips For Your Home's Plumbing System To Aid Against Plumbing Problems

With the first day of spring just around the corner, here are some spring cleaning tips for your home's plumbing system to aid against plumbing problems in the future:
  • Do a check of all faucets for drips and leaks. Repairing these can save you money and conserve water.
  • Double check all toilets to make sure they are free from hidden leaks. A great way to find out is by doing the food coloring test.
  • Purchase a strainer for each drain to avert clogged drains from hair and other debris.
  • When checking any toilets for leaks, also check for cracks.
  • If you are holding down or jiggling your toilet handle to stop the water, you likely need some repairs.
  • Turn all valves under any sinks and toilets to make sure they work properly and won't stick.
  • Make sure the temperature on your water heater is not set to more than 120 degrees. This can prevent burns and reduces energy consumption.
  • If your home has a sump pump, check that it works properly by pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit. The pump should quickly turn on, get rid of the water, and then turn off without issues.
  • Clean out any yard drains, downspouts, and gutters.
  • If you live in an area where sewers sometimes back up into homes, install a back flow valve in the floor drain. This can prevent backups in the future.
If you reside in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn areas, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for a complete spring inspection.

Or, you can CALL US and we’ll perform a complete Spring Inspection to make sure your home is ready for warm weather. Though there is a storm on it's way and a few more to come, it's never to early to prepare.

Spring Inspection:

- Faucet leak check

- Under-sink leak check

- Toilet leak check

- Water heater check-out

- Water Pressure test

- Main Water Shut-off check

- Comprehensive leak check

Does My Home Need A Sump Pump?

Sump Pump and Back-Up Systems

Thousands of dollars in valuables and stored memories can be lost if your basement floods. Many people lose their furnace too. And the clean up is a long and expensive process.
  • Be sure your sump pump works properly before a spring rainy season. Unplug your pump and pour several buckets of water in the sump pit until it is full. Plug the pump in and if the pump doesn’t turn on, it’s time to replace the pump.
  • Is your pump running continuously due to a lot of ground water? This will shorten the life of your pump, because it is continually working or “cycling”. If it wears out, your basement could flood. Adding an additional pump is an extra safeguard against loss.
  • A back-up pump is a must. If your first pump fails, the second pump will step in. The back-up pump must be run separately. Many back-up pumps fail because they are tied into the primary pump line.
  • Our AquaTech PLUS Dual Alternator System with battery back-up system and alarm will alternate your two sump pumps so that neither of the pumps works too hard. It will also keep your sump pumps running in case of a power outage (a distinct possibility in a storm) and alert you if one your pumps fail, so that you have ample opportunity to change it.
  • Pumps in a shallow pit can short cycle. This occurs when a pump turns on, but doesn’t run very long, shutting off and making terrible noises. Short cycle doesn’t allow the pump to fully start before shutting down. This is hard on your pump and will shorten its life. Make sure your pit is deep enough to handle the amount of water.
If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for assistance with all of your plumbing needs.

How To Check For A Water Leak

Are your water bills higher than they should be? Here’s how to check:

Faucets
  • Check your faucets for dripping water and under your faucets for moisture. Fix leaky faucets promptly. Even a slow leak can waste as much as 15 or 20 gallons of water a day. And a leak can ruin your faucet or even your cabinets and floors.
  • Leaky faucets are usually caused by seals which are dirty or worn and can be cleaned, replaced, or you may want to replace the faucet.
Toilets
  • Fix leaky toilets right away. A leaky toilet can waste over 30 gallons of water a day. Check your toilet for leaks by dropping a few drops of food coloring or a little bit of Kool-Aid in the tank. After about half an hour, it the water in the bowl has some color in it, the tank is leaking, and the stopper (flapper) and/or flush valve seat may need to be replaced.
  • Clogged toilet and a plunger didn’t work? If the water level is low fill a bucket with warm water and pour it from waist high into the bowl. Repeat if necessary after water is low again.
Other Leaks
  • Check for undetected leaks in your home by making sure all water is turned off inside your home, then checking your water meter. If it is still running, you may have an undetected leak.
  • When you know you are going to be gone for a few hours, write down the numbers on your water meter when you leave. If you check the meter when you return and the numbers have changed, there may be a leak somewhere inside your house.

A Tankless Water Heater Is Affordable And Eco Friendly

So the old water heater is cutting out again, eh? Is it making a pinging sound? Does it sound like a rusty robot trying to do yoga? Does it sound like it's going to take off into the stratosphere? Well, maybe it's time for a new water heater.

Are you still watching one of those clunky, boxy, tube t.v.'s? Do you check your email using Windows 95? No! So why are you stuck in the past with an old water heater that has behavioral issues and thinks Bill Clinton is still President?

Time for a tankless water heater! They are affordable, eco friendly, and will save you thousands annually.

If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 call us for a free estimate on installing your new tankless water heater.

What Should You Do If You Have A Gas Leak In Chicagoland

Our houses are like a living creatures made up of components that keep them running safely and efficiently--much like our bodies. With an intricate system of veins (or in this case pipes and lines) running through, under, around our domiciles. When one of these lines becomes incapacitated, like the human body it can be something trivial like a drippy faucet (runny nose) or something gravely serious like a gas leak (internal bleeding) that can not only compromise the safety of you and your family but could potentially annihilate an entire cul-de-sac.

Don't worry, we're here to help. Carbon monoxide detectors are a must in EVERY home so we will assume you've done the right thing and had them installed. Gas, by nature, is odorless. It is a silent killer. Luckily there is an additive that smells like sulfur to let people know there is gas leaking from somewhere.

What should you do if you have a gas leak?
ACT IMMEDIATELY. TURN OFF THE GAS. CALL US. GET OUT OF THE HOME OR BUSINESS AND WAIT FOR THE CAVALRY TO COME. (That's us!)

A gas leak should be treated with the utmost seriousness. If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 if your home or business has a gas leak.

What Are The Steps To Take If My Pipes Freeze?

The following are a few helpful tips from AquaTech Plumbing to keep your home in good working order this winter:
  • As temperatures reach freezing and dip far below it, be sure to close all air vents and other openings in the crawl space under your house. This will prevent heat from escaping as much as possible.
  • In freezing weather, never set your home's thermostat below 55 degrees. Below that temperature your pipes are at risk of freezing.
  • Insulate pipes that are prone to freezing, such as those near an outside wall, in unheated areas of your home, or if they are exposed, such as outside spigots. In an emergency, several layers of newspapers or rags can be used for temporary insulation.
  • Keep the cover to your water meter box securely in place to prevent the meter from freezing during cold periods.
  • In extremely cold weather, leave cabinet doors under sinks open to keep warm air circulating.
If Your Pipes Freeze:
  • We warn against using a hair dryer, heat lamp or light bulb to thaw the frozen pipe yourself. Too much heat in one spot can burst the pipe, and it is difficult to evenly distribute the heat over a large area of the pipe. Also, using any electrical appliance to thaw a pipe can be dangerous because the appliance could become wet, increasing your danger of electrocution.
  • DO NOT use a blow torch or any type of flame to thaw a frozen line. In addition to the danger of fire, extreme heat could thaw the pipe too rapidly, causing it to burst and resulting in potential injury and damage to your property.
If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for assistance in keeping your home in tip-top shape this winter season.

Keep Your Garbage Disposal In Working Order

Your garbage disposal will be asked to perform at maximum capacity every holiday season. A few things to keep in mind when using your disposer will ensure maximum use.
  • Don't overload the disposal. If you're cutting up a bunch of veggies like celery and potatoes, be sure to put the waste into the trash. When using the disposal, insert items in small amounts. Overloading such fibrous materials into the disposer can clog and overwhelm it.
  • Keep it clean. To rid your disposer of odors, take a bowl and fill it with ice, then, sprinkle an ample amount of baking soda onto the ice. Next, turn the disposal on and dump the ice with the baking soda into the sink. It will clean the teeth and remove smells. It's like brushing and rinsing your disposal's teeth.
  • Purchase a quality disposal. If it's time to replace your old one, don't get the cheapest solution. Go for efficiency. Spending more will save you the hassle of replacing it early on.
  • Teach kids that the disposal is very dangerous. Mark the disposal switch with red to prevent accidents. Make sure they know what not to put in it.
If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for assistance in keeping your garbage disposal and kitchen lines in good working order.

Does Your Home Or Business Piping Need To Be Repaired?

A gas leak can be the deadliest leak there is. Before an odor was added to it, people didn't know they had a leak until it was too late. Today, the odor is there to detect it. However, that doesn't make it any less deadly.

Every year paramedics and firefighters respond to calls of a gas leak after it's too late. The effects of a gas leak can be as small as a patch of grass dying to as large as a whole neighborhood engulfed in flames. Consider a gas leak to be like a leak on a boat. There are no good leaks. If left untreated, the results will be catastrophic.

Whether your home or business' piping needs to be repaired or new piping installed, call us. We take the time to ensure quality installation. Fall is here and Winter is fast approaching. Check your pipes today to see if they are up to the task of keeping your family warm and safe.

If you live in the Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for assistance in keeping your gas lines in good working order.

How Can I Tell If I Have A Slab Leak?

What is a repipe?

A repipe is the complete replacement of the incoming water system in a home or business from the water meter or well to all plumbing fixtures. As severe as it sounds it is actually a very common procedure. It is called for in situations where pipes have begun to leak due to deterioration, or when low pressure due to calcification is present.

How can I tell if I have a slab leak?

A slab leak is a term for a leak in one of the water lines running below the concrete floor of your home. To see if you have a slab leak, check your water meter. Without running any water in the house (laundry, toilet, dishwasher, etc.), check the dial face for any movement. Many meters have a "leak detector" which appears as a small black triangle or a small white wheel. If this is spinning or there is any movement on the dial, this indicates a leak in your water pipe system.

I am getting a foul odor from a bathroom in my home that we rarely even use. Why?

Your infrequent use of the bathroom is probably the cause of the problem. Certain plumbing fixtures have a built-in trap in their drains to keep sewer gas from seeping back into the home. Over time they can dry up. Dump a bucket of water into each of the plumbing fixtures in the bathroom. Flush regularly and this should solve the problem.

If you live in Naperville-Plainfield-Aurora, Geneva-Batavia-St.Charles or Wheaton-Winfield-Warrenville-Glen Ellyn area, contact AquaTech Plumbing at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 for assistance in keeping your plumbing in good working order.

Wipes Clog Pipes!

We teach our children while they are potty training to NOT put anything in the toilet other than waste and toilet paper. We teach them this and then we turn around and practice opposite of what we've preached. We do so by flushing wet wipes and baby wipes down the toilet. These items cause damage to entire sewer systems, affecting thousands of homes and businesses.

Most of us know not to flush paper towels down the toilet. They are thick and made for absorbing water, not to dissolve in water. Think about wet wipes and baby wipes. They are often times thicker and more durable than paper towels. They've absorbed water and retained it without disintegrating. That is a pretty good glimpse into how they're sewer life will play out. Wet wipes are wet and strong, even capable of causing iceberg sized masses to form in sewer systems throughout the nation.

Wipes have grown in popularity over the last few years and they are wrecking havoc on our plumbing systems. Remember, wipes clog pipes!
