Plumbing Tips for Fall
With falling temperatures just around the corner we have a
few tips to help you prepare your home's plumbing for the change in weather.
First, it is important to drain your water heater: If you
happen to live in an area that uses hard water this is especially
imperative. When your water heater isn't
drained annually, extra amounts of sediment will build up in the tank, and rust
could begin to develop, causing it to leak.
If you find that your water heater is too old or is rusty,
you should probably consider getting a new one. Better to invest in a new one
now than to experience a severe leak and damage to the area and items around
it. A tankless water heaters may be an
option to consider. They are smaller, don’t leak, save you money on your gas
bill, and provide unlimited hot water for 20-30 years.
It is also nearly time to disconnect water hoses until
springtime. If you leave your outdoor hose connected to the faucet, the water
that's still left in the hose can freeze and expand during the fall and winter
months, which can cause your faucets and the connecting pipes inside your home
to freeze. Not only will you be hindered from your future summer outdoor
activities, but you will also could have a hefty repair bill if you neglect to
disconnect the hose.

The Virtues of a Tankless Water Heater.
You probably don't think about your water heater until it’s
too late. When that time comes consider that storage tanks cost less but
tankless heaters save energy by only heating the water you draw. Needless to
say that is good for your budget as well as the environment.
Before you shell out thousands for a tankless model, you may
wish to see whether your old water heater can be fixed. A corroded storage-tank
model is probably beyond repair, but a leaky drain or pressure-relief valve or
a burned-out heating element can often be fixed. Rule of thumb: Consider a
repair if the labor cost (which warranties often exclude) averages less than
$50 per year over the years left in the warranty. Otherwise, buy a new one,
especially if the warranty has run out.
What you save with tankless systems can vary significantly
based on which one you buy and where you live.
To be sure that you need a new water heater or that you get
the best deal on a new one, the experts at AquaTech Plumbing are a phone call
away. If you live in Naperville, Lisle,
