Now that spring has sprung here are some tips, courtesy of
AquaTech plumbing to possibly prevent a more serious situation:
When was the last time you checked all of the faucets inside
and outside your home for drips and leaks?
Place a half dozen or so drops of food coloring in your
toilet tanks. Leave the toilets alone for a half hour or more. Come back and
check to see if the water in the bowl of any of the toilets has become tinted
with the food-coloring dye from the tank. If it has, you've got a leak between
the tank and the bowl.
Turn on all valves under any sinks and toilets to make sure
they work with ease and won't stick.
Make sure the temperature on your water heater is not set to
more than 120 degrees. This will not only prevent burns but also reduce energy
consumption.
This one seems obvious, but many people are too lazy or
incapable to clean out any yard drains, downspouts, and gutters. If you can’t do it yourself see if you can
find a more able body to do it for you.
