A Standard Water Heater for Your West Suburban Chicagoland Home.

Earlier this month AquaTech Plumbing, serving the Naperville-Aurora area, discussed the virtues of a tankless water heater.  Let’s face it, most of us will do perfectly well with a standard water heater.  However, you must choose the correct one and have it installed by professionals such as AquaTech.

Have you heard the name Bradford White?  Bradford White water heaters last longer. They are less susceptible to leaking and rupturing because they are made from mined ore in America rather than imported scrap metal containing small flecks of rust and particles.  A fact such as that would escape even the more educated home owner, but it is not lost on the professionals at AquaTech.  You will be much happier with the staying power of your water heater installed by AquaTech Plumbing and will have to replace it less frequently.

Isn’t it nice to have one less thing to think about concerning your home’s efficiency and safety?  This is the perfect time of year to address that old water heater.  Call AquaTech today if you live in Naperville, Lisle, Plainfield, Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville, or Glen Ellyn about your water heater or any other plumbing need at 630-416-3555, 630-898-3444, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.

A Tankless Water Heater is Not Only Economical, But Good for the Environment as Well.

You probably don't think about your water heater until a cold shower suggests you need a new one. How do you  choose? Storage tanks cost less but tankless heaters save energy by only heating the water you draw. Hybrid electric/heat-pump models and solar water heaters are two newer options.

Before you shell out thousands for a tankless or solar model, see whether your old water heater can be fixed. A corroded storage-tank model is history. But a leaky drain or pressure-relief valve or a burned-out heating element can often be fixed. Rule of thumb: Consider a repair if the labor cost (which warranties often exclude) averages less than $50 per year over the years left in the warranty. Otherwise, buy a new one, especially if the warranty has run out.

Consumer Reports tests through winter snow and summer heat also show that what you save with solar and tankless systems can vary significantly based on which one you buy and where you live. They also tested an add-on heat pump that, because of high maintenance, costs far more than its low price suggests.

To be sure that you need a new water heater or that you get the best deal on a new one, the experts at AquaTech Plumbing are a phone call away.  If you live in Naperville, Lisle, Plainfield, Aurora, Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles, Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville, or Glen Ellyn, give AquaTech Plumbing a call today about your water heater or any other plumbing need at 630-416-3555, 630-898-3444, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555.

A Gas Leak is a Very Dangerous Situation and Should Never Be Ignored

In many ways your house speaks to you when it is not feeling well.  I know that may sound crazy, but some defects are not detectable by site.  A gas leak is a perfect example of an “illness” in your home that needs immediate attention.

When a gas line becomes compromised it could be something trivial, but chances are the problem may be very serious.  It could compromise the very safety of your family and even threaten your neighbors.

Fear not, we are here to help in times like this.  Carbon monoxide detectors are an absolute necessity in every home.  Please make a New Year’s resolution to have them installed if they are not there now.

If you experience a sulfur-like odor do not hesitate.  Act immediately and turn off the gas.  The next step is to call your western suburban plumber, Aqua Tech Plumbing, at 630-416-3555, 630-377-9555, or 630-462-3555 if your home has a gas leak.  We will be here for all of your plumbing needs in 2015.

Freezing Pipes…The Scourge of a Chicagoland Winter.

AquaTech Plumbing tips to keep your home in good working order this winter, and if something goes wrong we are here to help you through the winter of 2014-2015.

As temperatures reach freezing and dip far below it, be sure to close all air vents and other openings in the crawl space under your house. This will prevent heat from escaping as much as possible.

•  In freezing weather, never set your home's thermostat below 55 degrees. Below that temperature your pipes are at risk of freezing.

Insulate pipes that are prone to freezing, such as those near an outside wall, in unheated areas of your home, or if they are exposed, such as outside spigots. In an emergency, several layers of newspapers or rags can be used for temporary insulation.

•  Keep the cover to your water meter box securely in place to prevent the meter from freezing during cold periods.

•  Here is a tip that most people do not consider.  In extremely cold weather, leave cabinet doors under sinks open to keep warm air circulating.

If Your Pipes Freeze:

•  It is ill-advised to use a hair dryer, heat lamp or light bulb to thaw the frozen pipe yourself. Too much heat in one spot can burst the pipe, and it is difficult to evenly distribute the heat over a large area of the pipe. We also recommend against using any electrical appliance to thaw a pipe which can be dangerous because the appliance could become wet, increasing your danger of electrocution.

•  DO NOT use a blow torch or any type of flame to thaw a frozen line. In addition to the danger of fire, extreme heat could thaw the pipe too rapidly, causing it to burst and resulting in potential injury and damage to your property.
